Michael Emans

Michael Emans is the founder of Tartan Whistle Dog Training and an experienced dog trainer with a background as both a military and police dog handler.

Throughout his career, Michael has worked with protection dogs, explosive detection dogs and search dogs in operational environments, developing extensive practical experience in training, handling and working dogs across a range of roles.

Following his service, Michael continued working with dogs across several UK police forces before transitioning into training with everyday dog owners. Today, he brings that experience to practical, one-on-one training for both pet and working dogs.

Michael believes effective training starts with understanding the individual dog in front of you. His approach uses reward, motivation and clear communication to tap into each dog’s natural ability, while developing reliable skills and confident handling.

Through Tartan Whistle Dog Training, Michael works with a wide range of breeds and experience levels, from foundation obedience and puppy development through to gundog training, scent detection, tracking and mantrailing.

Whether the goal is reliable everyday obedience or developing more specialised working skills, Michael’s focus is on giving owners the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to get the best from their dog and continue progressing together.
